Independent optometry in Bellaire & Meyerland
The eye exam where
nobody rushes you.
Most Houston eye clinics run you through in fifteen minutes and hand you off to a salesperson. We don't. Dr. Vu Nguyen and our therapeutic optometrists take the time to actually look — then let you choose your own frames, at your own pace.
What we do
Full-scope eye care — medical and optical — under one roof.
We're not a glasses store with a doctor in the back. We're a medical practice that happens to have one of the best frame collections in Southwest Houston.
An exam long enough to actually catch something.
Patient history, vision and focusing tests, eye-movement assessment and a full eye-health evaluation — for every age, from first exam to seniors.
Eye exams in Bellaire1,000+ frames. Zero pressure to pick one.
Tom Ford, Oliver Peoples, Gucci, Dior, Versace, Silhouette, Ray-Ban, Oakley — plus everyday frames that don't cost a fortune. Browse as long as you like.
See the collectionWalk out wearing them the same day.
We stock over 1,000 lenses in-office, so most patients leave with their prescription in hand the day of the exam. Hard-to-fit corneas welcome.
Contact lens fittingsRed, painful, or swollen? Call us before the ER.
Eye infections, styes, allergies, injuries and foreign-body removal — treated same day, usually for a fraction of an urgent-care visit. We bill medical insurance.
Urgent & medical eye careIf your eyes burn by 3pm, that's treatable.
Dry Eye Therapy and Computer Vision Syndrome are two of Dr. Nguyen's clinical focuses. Gritty, watery, tired eyes are a diagnosis — not something you live with.
Dry eye therapyYour child's prescription doesn't have to keep getting worse.
Dr. Cantu is certified in MiSight, orthokeratology and atropine — three proven ways to slow how fast nearsightedness progresses in children.
Children's eye careThe disease that steals sight silently.
Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist. We monitor, treat, and co-manage cataract surgery with Houston's leading surgeons.
Glaucoma & cataract careAn honest answer on whether LASIK is right for you.
We've guided hundreds of patients through laser vision correction with Houston's top surgeons — and we'll tell you plainly when you're not a good candidate.
LASIK consultationsNot sure what you need?
Call us and describe it. We'll tell you straight.
Two minutes on the phone is usually enough for us to tell you whether you need an appointment today, next week, or not at all.
(713) 662-3937Why patients stay for a decade
Six things our patients keep writing about.
We didn't invent these. We pulled them straight out of what people write about us — and out of what they say they hated everywhere else.
You won't be rushed.
The number one thing patients say about this office, on every review site, is that the doctor sat with them. Not for four minutes. Actually sat with them.
No hard sell. Ever.
Nobody here works on commission pressure to move frames. If your current glasses are fine, we will tell you they're fine. That's it.
Your lenses are cut here.
We run our own finishing lab on site and partner with Carl Zeiss Vision for high-definition lens design. Fewer hand-offs, fewer excuses, faster turnaround on custom work.
Something's wrong today? Come in today.
Woke up with a red, swollen, painful eye? Call the office. We keep room in the schedule for problem visits, and long-time patients get worked in.
We handle the insurance.
VSP, EyeMed, Medicare, Superior, Spectera/Optum, Davis, Tricare, United, Cigna, Aetna and more. Our front desk coordinates vision and medical benefits so you're not the one on hold.
We remember you.
Same doctors. Same opticians. Families who've been coming here since their kids were in elementary school. English, Spanish and Vietnamese spoken at the front desk.
Who you'll actually see
Three therapeutic optometrists. Not a rotating cast.
A therapeutic optometrist is licensed to diagnose and treat eye disease — not just write you a glasses prescription. All three of ours are. That's why patients with glaucoma, diabetic eyes, chronic dry eye and injured corneas end up here instead of in a waiting room downtown.
Our doctors, opticians, optometric assistants and lab technicians have over 90 years of combined optical experience.
Dr. Vu Nguyen
Board-certified therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist. 35 years in the optical field, 23 of them in private practice.
Dr. David Riojas
UT Austin, then Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston. Trained treating macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy at the San Antonio VA.
Dr. Christina Cantu
University of Houston College of Optometry. Certified in myopia management — MiSight, orthokeratology and atropine — and known for making a child's first eye exam genuinely fun.
In their words
Houston has a lot of eye doctors.
These people drive past all of them.

About the practice
A private practice that never sold out.
Half the optometry offices in Houston have been bought by private equity or a national chain in the last five years. This one hasn't. It's still Dr. Nguyen's practice, and it still runs like one.
Exceptional care at a fair price. That's the whole strategy.
Today's Vision Bellaire was founded by Dr. Vu Nguyen with a straightforward goal: offer exceptional quality at competitive prices, with efficient and highly trained eye care professionals.
In practice that means we carry over 1,000 frames and sunglasses and every major brand of contact lens. It means we keep an optical laboratory in the office so we can turn around custom lab orders faster. It means we partnered with Carl Zeiss Vision to offer the most up-to-date advances in high-definition lens design. And it means we handle everything from a child's first vision therapy session to red eyes, infections, eye injuries, and the co-management of glaucoma, cataract and LASIK surgery.
What it mostly means is that when you sit down in the chair, you're not being processed. You're being looked at.
Our doctors
Every one of them is a therapeutic optometrist.
That's a license to diagnose and treat eye disease — not just to hand you a prescription. It's why so much of what walks through our door is medical, not cosmetic.
Dr. Vu Nguyen
Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist, clinically trained to diagnose and manage ocular infections and eye diseases. His professional areas of interest include hard-to-fit contact lenses, pediatrics, glaucoma, dry eye management, cataract and LASIK co-management, and Computer Vision Syndrome. He has over 35 years of experience in the optical field, 23 of them in private practice.
Dr. David Riojas
Dr. Riojas received his Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at Austin and his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston. He completed externship training in Oklahoma treating a wide range of eye conditions for the Cherokee Nation, and trained at the VA Medical Clinic in San Antonio helping veterans with macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. He also spent a day each week at the VA hospital treating veterans with traumatic brain injuries causing double vision, light sensitivity and vision loss.
Dr. Christina Cantu
Dr. Cantu earned her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. As a therapeutic optometrist she treats everything from corneal foreign-body removal to preserving vision in glaucoma. She has a particular passion for pediatric patients and a knack for making a child's eye exam an enjoyable process. She is certified in myopia management using MiSight, orthokeratology and atropine — because a child who can see is a child who can learn.
The rest of the room
Ninety years of combined experience, and they know your name.
Our opticians, optometric assistants and lab technicians are the reason people say this office feels different. They're the ones who remember that your left ear sits higher, that you hate progressive lenses, and that your daughter's contacts are due in March.
Our front desk speaks English, Spanish and Vietnamese — and coordinates your vision and medical benefits before you walk in, so the first thing you hear when you arrive isn't a bill.
